Alkemie at the Cloisters

The Fuentidueña chapel of the Met Cloisters hosted us for a special, family-friendly performance on June 23. It was a dream to perform “Wondrous Beasts” in the home of the Unicorn Tapestries!”

Alkemie Performs at the Met Cloisters

What a joy to make our debut at the The Cloisters, also known as the Met Cloisters, which is a oasis of medieval European art and architecture located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan.

Over the course of a three-concert afternoon, medieval instruments and voices evoked soaring birds, slithering reptiles, majestic unicorns, and other marvelous creatures of the bestiary in an afternoon of 14th-century and new music. Alkemie members and special guest Madeline Healey, guided children and parents in experiencing the music through rhythmic stomping for the approach of the Basilisk, interpretive ribbon waving for the appearance of the Unicorn, and mouth-trumpeting during a raucous hunt.
