Alkemie Returns to Berkeley Festival
We are excited for our double-header debut on the Berkeley Festival, where we’ll perform alongside the Grammy award-winning ensemble, Chanticleer, and continue to celebrate our latest album release!
June 9: Along with other works by Machaut, Chanticleer & Alkemie will perform the Messe de Nostre Dame, one of the first multi-movement, large-scale notated compositions to exist in the Western canon. Some call it a “genesis of modern music.”
June 11: You’ll want to dance during our reprisal of Love to My Liking, which Early Music America described as “drawing as much on contemporary folk and Celtic styles as Medieval historical performance practice, the tracks frequently teem with a rustic, down-home swagger…period percussion supports the ensemble of strings and winds with a firm and zesty beat.”
Welcoming Elisa Sutherland as Alkemie’s newest core member
We are so pleased to officially welcome our longtime collaborator, friend, Elisa Sutherland as a full-fledged core member of the ensemble.
Known for her “soul-infused expressiveness and unselfconscious joie de vivre” (New York Music Daily), mezzo-soprano Elisa Sutherland is dedicated to detailed, stylistic interpretations of early and new music
Save the Date: Alkemie Performs at the Met Cloisters
Join us on June 23rd at the Met Cloisters for a special, family-friendly performance of our program, Wondrous Beasts.
Medieval instruments and voices evoke soaring birds, slithering reptiles, majestic unicorns, and other marvelous creatures of the bestiary in an afternoon of 14th-century and new music performed by Alkemie.
